What is Colour Analysis?

Who wouldn’t want to look more vibrant, energetic, healthy, and confident? Personal colour analysis will determine which colours flatter you the most based on your natural features.

Seasonal colour analysis has come a long way since the “Colour Me Beautiful” system from the 80’s. The colour analysis we practice today is a a highly individualized process that results in a unique colour palette for each person. Yes, you’ll find your best colours will reside within one of the four seasonal palettes.

There’s a lot of information (and misinformation, hello tiktok filters!) floating around these days about seasonal colour analysis. There are also a lot of different systems in use, with different seasons or palette parameters.

The method I use examines the hue, value, and chroma of the colouring in your skin, eyes, and hair. Then, we can identify your seasonal colour palette (summer, spring, autumn, or winter) and your dominant (deep x light, warm x cool, bright x soft), which relates to the combination of your features.

Some colours can turn your face redder, yellower, or greyer than you really are. Some can make you look spottier than you really are. Some can enhance the shadows under your eyes and the hollows of your face and make you look extremely tired, ill and/or old. Some can make you look pinched, like you’re grumpy.

Personal Colour Analysis isn’t really about transforming you, although it can feel like that. It’s about revealing what you actually look like.

Dakota Johnson for example looks a lot better in soft cool colours, whilst Zendaya glows in warm-based colours.

Is it worth it?

Having your seasonal colour palette will not just help you find your most flattering colours, but also can save you time and money in the long run.

I am sure you can relate to this: buying something because you liked the colour in the abstract, but never reaching for it because something about the colour on you just feels a bit off. When you know your colours you won’t accidentally buy something and then wonder why you don’t end up wearing it.

This is also true for jewellery, glasses, sunglasses, foundations and lipstick tones, prints and patterns. No more random and expensive experimentation!

Another upside is that getting your colour analysis is a one-time experience that will help you for life. The colouring of your undertones are set for life, so you'll only have to do it once.

The science behind the analysis does help you understand the colours to eliminate from your wardrobe – and that in itself is priceless! You also get to experience colours you’ve never gravitate to on your own, and it’s not about someone telling you, its about the drapes introducing you to different types of pinks, greens and blues and in amongst all of the swatches you get to find your WOW colours.

“But I heard colour analysis will limit the colours I can use and I wont be able to use black anymore."

No one can deny that there really is a science behind seasonal colour analysis. Harmony is beautiful to our eyes and colour analysis allows us to find the colours that are visually aging you, making you look off or washed out, and find the colours that match you and bring you alive and make you look stunning. You choose which ones you want to wear.

Colour analysis isn’t meant to stifle you, it’s meant to empower you!
