True Autumn Hair Colours
Natural colours range from dark chocolate and chestnut brown to warm honey.
Blonde might present in caramel highlights or sun-bleached tips.
Red is common and usually appears in variations of auburn, copper or russet.
If you want to dye your hair, the key is to consider your natural depth and keep the colour warm.
Accessories
Metals
Because your natural colouring is very warm, you want to repeat that in your accessories. The best metals for True Autumn are gold, cooper, brass and bronze. Brushed and satin metals are especially flattering.
Metals that are slightly less reflective are ideal, such as hammered, oxidised and antiqued metals. Steer clear of overly shiny metals – such as silver, platinum and white gold - which clash with your muted appearance.
Beautiful stones for True Autumn jewellery include coral, amber, carnelian, moss agate, tiger eye, turquoise, rutilated quartz, jasper and calligraphy stone, as well as brown pearls and wooden beads.
Sunglasses
Like everything else, true autumn eyewear needs to be warm.
Glasses frames can be any of the metals discussed above, or indeed any colour in the palette.
Tortoiseshell is the autumn classic! Avoid black as it can be too harsh on your soft colouring (dark brown is a great substitute). Also try to keep shine to a minimum and avoid anything reflective.
Make-up
To achieve a harmonious look, you should mimic your natural characteristics and your natural contrast with your make-up. If you want more info on true autumn's features and contrast levels, click here.
Foundation and concealer
If you are a true autumn, your primary colour aspect is your warm undertone (hue), and your secondary aspect is the softness of your features (low chroma).
There is no easy way to find your perfect foundation, it really is a matter of trial and error.
However, you should always select foundations and concealers with warm undertones (yellowish/golden look). A matte appearance is ideal for you, so products are best when they are matte, smooth and silky.
Avoid pinky foundations with cool undertones that will clash with your naturally warm complexion. If you’re new to all of this, I highly recommend you try the makeup on in-person.
Lots of brands have “W, N, NW, NC, C” on the label, which makes easier to match your undertone.
Its worth mentioning that MAC uses a different method, and it’s the opposite of other brands:
A person with warm undertone would be suited well to an NC foundation whereas a person with cool undertones would be better suited to an NW foundation.
A person with a beige undertone (neutral) would be perfectly suited to an N foundation.
Bronzer & Highlighter
Bronzer was made for you, as it brings out a healthy and golden glow in your appearance. The best bronzers for you are rich and warm (yellow-based).
You can also use bronzer as contour or a slightly darker powder than your foundation.
While a metallic bronzer can work, highlighters are not ideal – they have the potential to dull your appearance and can overwhelm your muted colouring.
Eyeshadows
Neutral eyeshadow colours are the beiges, khakis and browns as well as olive and golden shades on the colour palette.
For highlight and accent eyeshadow colours, opt for the oranges, reds, purples and greens on your palette. Always consider adding some gold!
Avoid glitter finishes and cool, blue based eyeshadow colours, which will clash with your warm and rich appearance.
Blushes
Salmon, peach and rusty tones are fantastic options for blush colours. Make sure you choose warm, light and yellow-based colours with a finish that is not overly shimmery.
But again, trying these colours on in person will be an essential learning curve.
Mascara and Eyeliner
Eyeliner and mascara are the darker shades from your palette. You wont regret investing on browns instead of black. Once you try the warmer colours instead of black you’ll be amazed at how much more harmonious and gentle it can be with your colouring.
As an eyeliner, you can use any colour from your palette and, if you want to bring out your eyes, choose an eyeliner in a similar colour.
Lipsticks
True Autumn lipstick colours are a range of oranges, reds, warm pinks and browns.
Look for colours such as mahogany, burnt sienna, maple, nutmeg, brick pink, rust and salmon.
For a harmonious look, choose a matte or golden finish, as sparkle or gloss can be too much on you. Avoid overly bright and cool colours - such as barbie pink.
The level of intensity you will be aiming for should match your contrast level. This will ensure balance and that your lip colour won’t pull focus.
This can also dependend on the purpose of the makeup; if you want to look balanced and harmonious, repeat your contrast level. If you want a dramatic effect and an impactful look, going a few shades darker will do the trick.
