True Winter Hair Colours
Cool Winter hair is typically dark, ranging from dark ash brown to black. This colour season's hair does not have any natural highlights. Natural greys are very flaterring.
If you want to change your hair colour, keep the colour very, very cool.
Always remember the most harmonious look is the one where you keep your natural contrast and your natural features. If you change that, the result is an impactful look (think blonde Sandra Bullock). There is no right or wrong, as long as you are achieving the results you want.
Accessories
Metals
Because your natural colouring is very cool, you want to repeat that in your accessories. The best metals for True Winter are silver and platinum. You might be able to wear white gold, but avoid yellow gold, as it will clash with your cool appearance and make you look off.
Shiny metals work a lot better with your intense, bright colouring rather than antiqued, matte or brushed metals.
Diamonds, rubies, sapphires, rubellite, tanzanite, and emeralds are excellent choices for True Winter. These gemstones align well with the bright and cool aesthetic of this season. Snow-white pearls also create a sophisticated and striking look for True Winters.
Sunglasses
Like everything else, true winter eyewear needs to be cool.
Glasses frames can be any of the metals discussed above, or any colour in the palette. Black frames work beautifully on you and you can also use shining frames and lenses to add a bit of fun.
Avoid tortoise, earthy colours and wood frames because their warmth will clash with your cool appearance.
Make-up
To achieve a harmonious look, you should mimic your natural characteristics and your natural contrast with your make-up. If you want more info on true winter's features and contrast levels, click here.
Foundation and concealer
If you are a true winter, your primary colour aspect is your cool undertone (hue), and your secondary aspect is the brightness of your features (high chroma).
There is no easy way to find your perfect foundation, it really is a matter of trial and error.
However, you should always select foundations and concealers with cool undertones (pinkish look). These products are best when have a dewy or satin finish.
Avoid yellow and peachy tones, which have warm undertones and will clash with your naturally cool complexion. Also stay away from matte finishes. If you’re new to all of this, I highly recommend you try the makeup on in-person.
Lots of brands have “W, N, NW, NC, C” on the label, which makes easier to match your undertone.
Its worth mentioning that MAC uses a different method, and it’s the opposite of other brands:
A person with warm undertone would be suited well to an NC foundation whereas a person with cool undertones would be better suited to an NW foundation.
A person with a beige undertone (neutral) would be perfectly suited to an N foundation.
Bronzer & Highlighter
Bronzer is not a make-up product designed for True Winters since its purpose is to bring out a golden warmth, which Bright Winters do not have. Stay away from bronzers, as they will simply look off on you.
Highlighters will add some shimmer without the golden tones of a bronzer. Make sure you select a silver-looking highlighter instead of gold-looking one.
Eyeshadows
Neutral eyeshadow colours are the are the whites and greys on the palette. You can also use black for a more dramatic look. If you want to use brown, make sure its a cool brown.
For highlight and accent eyeshadow colours, opt for the brighter, more colourful colours on your palette. Purples, pinks and greens are excellent choices and make sure to choose cool and metallic shades.
When you select eyeshadows, go for creamy consistencies and shimmer finishes.
Avoid warm, golden and bronze shades as well as matte eyeshadows because that will clash with your brightness. Your appearance needs some glow and freshness.
Blushes
True Winter blushes inlude a range of cool pinks and purples, depending on the depth of your skin tone. Make sure you choose cool, blue-based colours with a shimmery finish.
Avoid warm oranges and peach colours that will clash with your frosty appearance.
Mascara and Eyeliner
As a Winter, your best choice of mascara is, of course, black. True Winter needs contrast and intensity. You could also try dark blue or gray mascara, as long as they are intense enough.
Eyeliner colours include the dark shades from your palette, such as black, dark greys, dark blues, purples and greens. If you want to bring out your eyes, choose an eyeliner in a similar colour.
Lipsticks
True Winter lipstick colours include blue-based pinks, reds and purples. Go for glossy, shiny finishes to match your natural brightness.
Even though these colours may at first glance seem bold, they will look very natural on you because they mimic the intensity of your appearance and match your contrast level.
Avoid matte lipsticks, warm colours as well as nude colours - all of these will clash with your complexion. These include warm oranges, yellow-based reds, brown tones and peachy pinks.
If you want to look balanced and harmonious, repeat your contrast level. If you want a dramatic effect and an impactful look, going a few shades darker will do the trick.
