Bright Winter Hair Colours
Bright Winter hair is typically dark, ranging from medium brown to black and can have either blue, ash undertones or be neutral. Natural greys are very flaterring in this season.
If you want to change your hair colour, keep the colour bright and cool. If you want to go ligther, make sure you go up to 4 tones (max!) above your natural colour.
Always remember the most harmonious look is the one where you keep your natural contrast and your natural features. If you change that, the result is an impactful look (think blonde Sandra Bullock). There is no right or wrong, as long as you are achieving the results you want.
Accessories
Metals
Because your natural colouring is bright, you want to repeat that in your accessories. The best metals for Bright Winter are shiny. Silver, platinum and gold will all work, as long as they are shiny enough.
Avoid antiqued, matte or brushed metals, as they will clash with your natural brigthness and make you look off. Also avoid anything earthy and wood coloured.
Beautiful stones for Bright Winter jewellery are diamonds, rubies, emeralds, blue and pink sapphires, and many colours of Swarovski crystals. Snow-white pearls also create a sophisticated and striking look for Bright Winters.
Sunglasses
Like everything else, bright winter eyewear needs to be bright.
Glasses frames can be any of the metals discussed above, or any colour in the palette. Black frames work beautifully on you and you can also use shining frames and lenses to add a bit of fun.
Avoid tortoise, earthy colours and wood frames because their warmth will clash with your cool appearance.
Make-up
To achieve a harmonious look, you should mimic your natural characteristics and your natural contrast with your make-up. If you want more info on bright winter's features and contrast levels, click here.
Foundation and concealer
If you are a bright winter, your primary colour aspect is the brightness of your features (high chroma) and your secondary aspect is your neutral-cool undertone (hue).
There is no easy way to find your perfect foundation, it really is a matter of trial and error.
However, you should always select foundations and concealers with cool or neutral-cool undertones (pinkish look). These products are best when have a dewy or satin finish.
Avoid yellow and peachy tones, which have warm undertones and will clash with your naturally cool complexion. Also stay away from matte finishes. If you’re new to all of this, I highly recommend you try the makeup on in-person.
Lots of brands have “W, N, NW, NC, C” on the label, which makes easier to match your undertone.
Its worth mentioning that MAC uses a different method, and it’s the opposite of other brands:
A person with warm undertone would be suited well to an NC foundation whereas a person with cool undertones would be better suited to an NW foundation.
A person with a beige undertone (neutral) would be perfectly suited to an N foundation.
Bronzer & Highlighter
Bronzer is not a make-up product designed for Bright Winters since its purpose is to bring out a golden warmth, which Bright Winters do not have. Stay away from bronzers, as they will simply look off on you.
Highlighters will add some shimmer without the golden tones of a bronzer. Make sure you select a silver-looking highlighter instead of gold-looking one.
Eyeshadows
Neutral eyeshadow colours are the are the taupes and greys on the palette. You can also use black for a more dramatic look. If you want to use brown, make sure its a cool brown.
For highlight and accent eyeshadow colours, opt for the brighter, more colourful colours on your palette. Purples, pinks and greens are excellent choices and make sure to choose cool and metallic shades.
When you select eyeshadows, go for creamy consistencies and shimmery finishes.
Avoid warm, golden and yellow-based colours as well as muted shades and matte finishes because that will clash with your brightness. Your appearance needs some glow and freshness.
Blushes
Bright Winter blushes inlude a range of cool pinks and mauves. Depending on the depth of your skin tone, choose the light pinks for lighter skin tones and the deeper taupes for darker skin tones. Make sure you choose cool, blue-based colours with a shimmery finish.
Avoid warm oranges and peach colours that will clash with your cooler appearance.
Mascara and Eyeliner
As a Winter, your best choice of mascara is, of course, black. Winters need contrast and intensity. You could also try dark blue or gray mascara, as long as they are intense enough.
Eyeliner colours include the dark shades from your palette, such as black, dark greys, dark blues, purples and greens. If you want to bring out your eyes, choose an eyeliner in a similar colour.
Lipsticks
Bright Winter lipstick colours include blue-based pinks, reds and purples. Go for glossy, shiny finishes to match your natural brightness. Opt for sheer formulations, or apply over lip balm to sheer them out.
Glosses and coloured lip balms are the best options to achieve a natural look. Avoid nude tones as they will look off on you.
Even though these colours may at first glance seem bold, they will look very natural on you because they mimic the intensity of your appearance and match your contrast level.
Avoid matte lipsticks, warm colours as well as nude colours - all of these will clash with your complexion. These include warm oranges, yellow-based reds, brown tones and peachy pinks.
If you want to look balanced and harmonious, repeat your contrast level. If you want a dramatic effect and an impactful look, going a few shades darker will do the trick.
